What is Cordyceps Sinensis?
Cordyceps Sinensis has long been recognized as a superior mushroom that promotes vitality and endurance. In the New Compilation of Materia Medica and the modern Chinese Pharmacopoeia, Cordyceps Sinensis is well known for having the efficacy of nourishing kidneys, lungs, protecting internal organs, and much more.
Cordyceps Sinensis is an insect parasitizing fungus of the ascomycetes family. The fungus lives in the larvae of one particular species of moth, the Hepialus armoricanus. The mycelium invades the caterpillar and eventually replaces the host tissue in winter, and a fungal fruit body grows out of the top of the caterpillar in the summer.
Hence, its Chinese name “Dong Chong Xia Cao” (冬虫夏草) – “winter worm, summer grass”. Wild Cordyceps Sinensis requires a special growing environment, yielding a low growth rate and a high variation in quality, due to the lack of quality control.
In order to satisfy the ever-growing demand for Cordyceps Sinensis, the manufacturer Seiken Well Inc. has devoted many years in the successful cultivation of Cordyceps Sinensis mycelium, which has medicinal value comparable to those grown in the wild.
